Dave Miller's soul is steeped in the warmth and the traditions of his Memphis and Little Rock homeland, and those influences are well displayed in his latest Howlin' Dog Records release Prayers in the Wind. There's a southern twinkle in his eye, a warm friendship in his handshake, and his songs are full of fellowship, gatherings, memorable characters, and all the things that make life worth living. The journey kicks off with "Salt and Pepper", a humorous but penetrating look at the joys of maturity, followed by the George Jones-ish lovelorn "These Walls". Then along comes "Washboard Mama", tearing it up and taking names, featuring Dave's old friend "Washboard Leo" Thomas on his namesake instrument, with the haunting "The Quilter" next - a beautiful homage to Dave's quilting wife Natalie, and featuring Eliza Gilkyson on harmony vocals. The homespun southern story of farmer/moonshiner "Jenkin's Plan" is next on Dave's journey, which leads to the beautiful and contemplative "Least of These". "Faster Than Pete" is another rollicking story of some unforgettable but tangled characters, followed by the wistful "Prayers in the Wind", for those lost along the way. You can smell the diesel and hear the twang in the rockin' road song "Gypsy Wheels", with the Prine-ish and playful alternate history of "Isabella" next. Then we get to join Dave in celebrating his home state with "Heaven or Arkansas" and then closing out with the anthemic and uplifting "Sing".It's a great journey through the warm and wonderful world of Dave Miller, and we hope you can join in!Songs - 1.
